ProgKaZoo Trials

Gray Builds the ProgKaZoo (Chapter III)

ProgKaZoo Quest: Day Three...

Today was all about testing and refining. I took the better of the two ProgKaZooz (v2b), plugged it into the effects unit and then through to the amp and switched on. I gave it some echo and let rip. It was a whale of a sound! The main thing that came to light, was when I tested v2a and found that totally covering the top part with the microphone muffled and dulled the actual sound of the unit. So, I took some time to find the best position for the mic. I'm going to get some double-sided adhesive pads today and use a trimmed one to mount the mic so air can get through yet the mic won't be too vunerable or far away from the noise. I did experiment by drilling a hole in one of the mics, but this didn't produce a satisfactory result.

Testing was great fun. The effects unit has some nice sounds which make the ProgKaZoo sound fun. The echo is good and there seems to be one setting which harmonises, which was great. As you can hear from the movie clip (see below) it didn't sound too bad with a properly positioned mic on top. I'm afraid the best thing I do for a cape at this point, was to drape my flag over my shoulders and then give it my best Emerson (minus the daggers) for this performance. The last note is a bit bum due to me trying not to be overcome by the majesty of the sound being pushed from the amp. I hope you enjoy it!

Next Stage

The next stage is to build the ultimate ProgKaZoos. I'll be leaving ProgKaZoo v2a as it is now and I'll be adding the adhesive pad to the mic on v2b and tidying up the wires transforming it into the Ultimo-ProgKaZoo. I will then build a second Ultimo-ProgKaZoo which I present to Richie-Boy. If he doesn't like it, he can shove it up his arse, but I predict that he'll love it and we'll be giving it some serious welly at the rehearsal.

My intention is to properly heat shrink the cables and make it look nice and professional and to add the mic stuff to the last virgin kazoo that I found lying around last night. I'll get the bits today (hopefully) and work on it either tonight or over the weekend.

Keep it here, people!

Fanfare for the Common Man: First Try

The video is in FLV format and should stream quite quickly to your computer. Excuse the distorted sound, the microphone on the camera isn't the best when recording high-volume noise. Please be patient if the video doesn't load immediately.
